Historical Archive: Jelling Stones, Denmark

Larger stone (DR42) is in original position; original place of smaller one (DR41) is unknown
glass and bronze shelter 2011

Larger stone, probably 965/70, granite 243 cm high (95.7 inches): King Harald Bluetooth (reg. 958-87)
runic inscription:
King Harald commanded this monument to be made in memory of his father Gorm and his mother Thyre (Thorvi).
That Harald won the whole of Denmark and Norway and made the Danes Christian.

Smaller stone, granite 139 cm high (54.7 inches): King Gorm the Old (reg. about 936-58)
runic inscription: King Gorm made this monument in memory of his wife Thyre, Denmark’s adornment
